Harriet Allen manages the Endangered and Threatened Species Section at Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife. She leads a team of 4 endangered species biologists and oversees the identification, listing, and recovery of endangered, threatened, sensitive and candidate wildlife species in the state. Current work includes recovery programs for listed mammals (wolf, fisher, lynx, pygmy rabbit, pocket gopher), birds (sage and sharp-tailed grouse), amphibians and reptiles (western pond turtle, Oregon spotted frog, northern leopard frog) and insects (Mardon skipper, Taylor's checkerspot, Island Marble butterflies). She started with the WDFW in 1979 working on studies addressing endangered and threatened species including bald eagles, ferruginous hawks, lynx and spotted owls; she has been managing the T&E Section since 1988. She has a Bachelor's degree in Wildlife Science and a Master's Degree in Plant Ecology from Texas A&M University.
