What do wolves and fine art have in common? Both captivate our imagination, evoke deep emotion, and challenge us to see the world through a new lens.
These themes were brought to life in Wild Within: A Lens on Wolves, a photography exhibit that ran at the Tacoma Museum of Glass from November 20, 2024, to January 5, 2025. Featuring stunning photography by Gelane Clements, Julie Lawrence, and Annie Musselman, the exhibit highlighted the powerful connection between wolves and art. This collaboration unveiled incredible images from Wolf Haven International’s 40-year archive, which were never displayed to the public before.
As part of the museum's Field Notes: Artists Observe Nature series, Wild Within not only showcased the beauty and significance of wolves but also prompted reflection on their role in a rapidly changing world. The exhibit invited visitors to explore the complex history of wolves – from their extirpation in the 1800s to their slow recovery in modern day – and illustrated how Wolf Haven supports both wild recovery and the rescue of displaced animals.
The exhibit expanded Wolf Haven’s reach to thousands of new visitors, who were captivated by the photographs and gained a deeper understanding of the challenges wolves face. For those who missed the exhibit, stay tuned – Wild Within will likely appear at other locations soon, offering additional opportunities to experience these powerful photographs. A heartfelt thanks to the Museum of Glass, Gelane Clements, Julie Lawrence, and Annie Musselman for their partnership in supporting Wolf Haven and helping bring this important exhibit to life!
